Steelwings newsletter 2 nd  semester 2017 This newsletter has been started over again about 6 times  –  and I cannot procrastinate any longer.... Our second semester of 2017 was indeed a very busy one! We kicked off with a midwinter Blanket run, joining all the other Kimberley bikers and, true to style, our club came up tops with the most blankets donated, proof that we are a bunch of open hearted people. Well done, SW Kimberley.  Later the same month, on a very cold winter’s day, we were all off to Boshoff Hotel for a brunch. The food was nothing to write home about, but the company was excellent. A bunch of dedicated true bikers, who don’t let the weather interfere with riding! And not much changes from year to year  –  the sign in reception certainly didn’t!  And so our trips to local Hotels nearby continue. Next trip just a few weeks later took members to the Modderiver Hotel. This is one place we can visit again  –  it was a pleasant surprise. And just to prove that we also like to kuier, we got together for an absolute blast. Our social committee, headed by Kittie, organised for us to get out our dancing shoes to skoffel to the music of DJ Ertjies. Denims and Diamonds it was called. And social we did  –  so much so that we cleared out the bar, I heard. Like everything SW Kimberley does  –  we did it well! The month of August was a quiet one for our Harleys. But it certainly wasn’t a quiet one for our members. Planning, discussions, and preparations for the Star Alliance rally 2017. We were nervous, because we wanted to do well and give our visitors something to enjoy. Each and every member helped. Roll on September, and the long awaited and planned Star Alliance Rally was upon us. The Protea Hotel at the Big Hole was the perfect setting for this rally. Enough accommodation and space, and a stone’s throw away from our world renowned and most famous tourist attraction, the BIG HOLE. In true Northern Cape style, our welcoming committee (plus a few extra helpers) was op hulle pos ! The registration table was well  organised to make sure that no-one arriving had to wait, and that each and every person got something to drink, and a welcoming shooter of their choice. The music was great, the atmosphere one of true anticipation. The rally packs were handed out (and great ones at that!) and we were ready, set, go! Let the games begin.... Our road captain, Malan and his team, made sure that the games at the rally were mega fun. DANKIE!   On top of these games we also had a once in a lifetime chance to hit a hole in one into the Big Hole. This was organised by Christo and his team. Thanks, Mike  –  a job extremely well done. The prizegiving, the lucky draws and the auction was enjoyed by all. And the party that followed will be talked about for years to come. Kimberley Steelwings can be proud of the rally. It was really enjoyed by everyone. The team: Having a rally on home ground comes with its disadvantages  –  the big one being that we really didn’t get to ride much. So, just after the rally it was off on a breakfast/brunch ride to Douglas in the most perfect riding weather one could wish for! And great fun for the whole family…..  The Memorial and Toy run of 2017 were next on the agenda, organised by BANC. We joined in and had a great time.   It was really great getting to socialize with the other bikers in Kimberley. They are a bunch of great people that share our passion for freedom on 2 wheels. After that is was off to our National Rally in Alpine Heath  –  THUNDERBERG!!. From start to finish, this was one GREAT trip. If you missed out, make a note and fill in your diary  –  2018 will be even better! We rode in two groups  –  here is the first group having a good laugh and great breakfast at our first stop in Bloemfontein. Daar gekom en ons eet en drink ‘n hond uit ‘n bos uit! Samesyn soos nog altyd, met goeie vriende. Ineke and Charle won us our 1 and only trophy  –  soft hands, and easy does it! The egg catching champs! The theme was Hippies and Steelwings Kimberley did it in style, once again. Our bunch are always game for fun and laughter, en straf doppe………!!!!  En so van
